Kurt Hectic, Max, and Dr. Fluke Hawkins are celebrating Gunther Gut"s defeat when a remaining minecrawler is discovered in Edmonton, Canada. История студии
Создание BioWare – история счастливая и поучительная. Рассказывает она о трех канадских школьниках, которые учились на медиков, но при этом поигрывали в приставки и предавались мечтам о собственной студии. В 1994 году мечты наконец оформились в нечто материальное – пацаны решили запилить игровую компанию, что и было реализовано годом позже.
Дальше пошло-поехало. Baldur`s Gate 1 и 2, Star Wars: KotOR, мировое признание, десятки наград… Ну а потом случилась неприятность: в 2007 году студию выкупило издательство , после чего BioWare хоть и получила в свое распоряжение большие деньги, но при этом стала делать проекты сомнительного качества. Свой отпечаток оставило и злоупотребление политикой выпуска DLC, из-за чего у пользователей оставалось ощущение, что игру им продают по частям. С другой стороны, боссы EA научили сотрудников BioWare делать морду кирпичом при любых претензиях, так что на самой студии это мало отразилось.
Впрочем, были в истории студии и исключения из правила. Так, оказалась настоящей жемчужиной в коллекции BioWare, из-за чего ребятам простили большинство прегрешений. Серия предложила фанатам беспроигрышный вариант: космос, сексуальные инопланетянки, гигантские , бороздящие просторы, и эпический сюжет, достойный экранизации.
По мере эволюции серии от первой части к третьей, RPG-составляющая в все больше разбавлялась перестрелками с укрытиями и эпическими роликами, апофигеем чего стала та самая невнятная концовка, вызвавшая лютую ненависть комьюнити к сценаристам. Ситуацию несколько исправил выход трех DLC с альтернативными концовками, которые, впрочем, так и не смогли вернуть сюжету здравый смысл.
Заигрывания с онлайном
Тесная связь BioWare с EA не могла не закончиться масштабным онлайновым проектом. Таковым должен был стать , однако принимая во внимание состояние студии и самого издательства, громкий проект закончился едва ли не самым эпическим провалом в истории компании. Долгое время разработчики говорили, что делают очередного «убийцу WoW». На деле же у BioWare действительно получился , только с лазерными мечами, убогими робами джедаев и еще более убогой графикой. Во всяком случае, тех 100 миллионов долларов, которые по слухам были затрачены на создание игры, это не стоило, а проект каким-то чудом не закрыли и успели перевести на условно-бесплатные рельсы, по которым он, кряхтя и поскрипывая, все же поехал в уже далеко не светлое будущее.
Сегодня BioWare пытается исправиться, работая над третьей частью Dragon Age. Принимая во внимание, что вторая часть оказалась провальной, особых надежд на продолжение серии возлагать не стоит, хотя использование движка Frostbite 3 может добавить проекту очков.
